DT Swiss MTB Rims
Here at Strada Handbuilt Wheels we’re big fans of DT Swiss products for road and MTB, we’ve been using their components for many years and have been continuously impressed with the level of craftsmanship, resilience & ease of maintenance that the Swiss brand regularly brings to the wheel builder and rider. With that in mind, we thought we’d highlight our top three alloy DT Swiss MTB rims to cater for all your trail shredding needs. From race-ready cross-country contenders to gravity fuelled descent-destroyers and everyone in between these three superb rims.
XR361 – Cross-Country
These rims are chiselled like an elite cross-country racer but they’re still tough, wide & ready for trail action. Acknowledging the proven benefits of wider tyres across the board DT Swiss have introduced wider rims to meet riders demands for an increase in tyre volume, the XR361 comes in at 22.5mm for the internal width and 26mm externally, more than enough for the modern XC race whippet! Due to DT Swiss exclusive PHR nipple-spoke interface which distributes loads over a larger area of the rims surface they can afford to trim down the wall thickness to achieve an impressively low rotational mass of 390g for the 27.5 rim & 410g for the 29er. Not too shabby if you ask us.
XM421 – Trail
DT Swiss know exactly how light it can design a MTB rim to fulfil its maximum potential and at 440g (465g for the 29er) the XM421 is as light as an all mountain rim can get whilst still being fearless when it comes to more aggressive trails. To give you an idea of how wide rims have really dominated the market, with a 25mm internal width (30mm external) this lightweight all mountain incarnation is as wide as the average downhill rim was just a couple years ago. So if you’re looking for a rim that won’t weigh you down on the climbs nor be precious on a rowdy descent, DT Swiss made this rim for you.
EX511 – Gravity/Enduro
The weapon of choice for Enduro World Series legend Richie Rude the XM511 packs in all the technology that has delivered many EWS wins and applies it to an even burlier 30mm (internal) wide profile. At 535g these rims are far from heavy considering their aggressive purpose, a weight well worth comparing with many of its carbon counterparts designed for a similar purpose when considering your next purchase. In short, this rim is designed with one thing in mind, the intrinsic need for riders to shred burlier terrain faster & faster.
All these three DT Swiss MTB rims can be built with DT Swiss 240 or 350 hubs or with Hope Pro 4 too. Contact Strada for your pair of DT Swiss wheels on 01903 214956 or use the contact form to get in touch.
